Maggie Gallagher's 'ex-gay' summer fling
The one thing Maggie Gallagher has done this summer is defend so-called "ex-gay" therapy, specifically as it relates to New Jersey. Here are two posts from the past two months:
After so much marriage talk, Maggie Gallagher seeks 'change' [G-A-Y]
And now Maggie Gallagher is defending 'ex-gay' therapy [G-A-Y]
Now the National Organization For Marriage co-founder (who has admitted she sees homosexuality as "an unfortunate thing") is out with another round, this time striking at New Jersey governor Chris Christie for putting the kibosh on such unethical practices. My pal Chris Geidner reports:
“It is a right of self-determination that Gov. Christie has shut down”

As I've told you in prior posts, Maggie is in this game because she now chairs the board of the Freedom of Conscience Defense Fund, a group fronted by NOM's former general counsel, Charles Limandri, that has been defending "ex-gay" therapy in NJ. Perhaps Maggie owes LiMandri a favor, or maybe she really does see "ex-gay" defense as her next act. Whatever the reason, this NJ/"ex-gay" cause has been a personal mission of hers as of late.
It's a bizarre turn, really. And one that's going to be harder for her to shake than I think she realizes.
