Video: In hysterical horror film, Concerned Women For America casts VA AG as villain, discrimination as hero

by Jeremy Hooper

Virginia's Attorney General is not defending the state's marriage ban because he believes, rightly so, that it is flagrantly unconstitutional. When someone who knows a thing or two about the law makes this choice, he or she is, in fact, defending the constitution from unreasonable attempts to muck it up.

But leave it to the proudly discriminatory Concerned Women For America to frame the AG in a reductive way that makes him seem scary and lawless:

No, CWA—you just don't like that U.S. Constitution says and means what it says and means. And you hate the fact that you and your movement failed to change the U.S. Constitution so that it fits your discriminatory whims.

The truth is, a whole lot of people duped a whole of citizens into believing that they could just up and pass anti-gay laws and get away with it. We always told them this wasn't the case, which gave us some sense of peace back during those dark years when misinformation was still winning the day to the great expense of our rights. Now we are seeing what we always knew and said to being brought to reckoning. Sure, CWA and related groups hate that. But they can't say we didn't warn them.
