Audio: LA's top anti-LGBT activist claims discrimination is really 'the shame and guilt the homosexual feels'

by Jeremy Hooper

The city council of Baton Rouge, LA, recently defeated an ordinance that would have simply safeguarded LGBT citizens with fair nondiscrimination policies. Gene Mills, head of the Louisiana Family Forum went on Tony Perkins' daily radio show to do a victory dance, where he and fill-in host Richard Land determined that gay people are really engaging in the ultimate rebellion against God and that what LGBT people call discrimination is really just the shame that they feel inside.

(Land is first voice: Mills first comes in with an "it is" at the :11 mark)

Who is taking away your right to say this? No one! Frankly, I don't care if Mills and Land stand on every street corner in Louisiana and chant "Gays are God's enemy" over and over and over again. Hell, print up some signs. Come up with some fun songs. Pack a picnic lunch and turn into an fun family outing, if that is what tickles your pickle. I don't know even one LGBT activist (and I know more than a few) who would be even kind of bothered by that kind of exercise. Some would pity or laugh at it, perhaps—but few would be bothered in any real way.

But you can't inscribe this view into law. And that is really what people like Gene Mills and Richard Land want. They want subjugation. They want suppression. They want an America that gives them the feast and only allows us to have whatever scraps might fall from their picked-over plate. Because they believe their dominance is an American value. You heard Gene Mills come right out and say it: Anti-LGBT discrimination isn't really even a thing to him—it is simply us "agreeing" with the shame that he insists we must feel about who and what we are.

It is a brute view of humanity. And sadly, in some American cities, it is still running amok.
