AFA's new desperation: Marriage equality will turn bible into 'Mein Kampf'

by Jeremy Hooper

As I mentioned at the first of the year, I pretty much ignore fringe voices like Bryan Fischer nowadays. This craziness, printed on the main website of a special interest group that continues to earn support from top GOP politicians, merits an exception to the rule:

The truth, of course, is that a civl marriage equality ruling from SCOTUS, just like all marriage equality developments before it, simply states that the legal rights of an American citizen are to be protected independent from anyone's religious beliefs—no matter how positive or negative those beliefs may be. No court is telling people how to use their bible; the courts are simply saying that one cannot use his or her bible to limit the deserved civil rights of other taxpayers.

But things have gotten so desperate on the other side that we are really at this point of extreme craziness. Groups like the AFA are now telling their supporters that people like me and you—and 61% of Americans, according to the latest poll—who simply fight to protect our families, our bonds, our estates, and our rights, are inspiring a world where they will soon be seen as Hitler-like. Godwin doesn't even have a law strong enough to speak to this kind of nuttiness!
