Stop me if you've heard this one: Gay men throw reception for Ted Cruz; Cruz doesn't act as super anti-gay as usual

by Jeremy Hooper

Weirdest story of the week:

Senator Ted Cruz, the Republican presidential candidate, has positioned himself as a strong opponent to same-sex marriage, urging pastors nationwide to preach in support of marriage as an institution between a man and a woman, which he said was “ordained by God.”

But on Wednesday night, at a reception for him at the Manhattan apartment of two prominent gay hoteliers, the Texas senator struck quite a different tone.

During the gathering, according to two attendees, Mr. Cruz said he would have no problem if one of his daughters was gay. He did not mention his opposition to same-sex marriage, saying only that marriage is an issue that should be left to the states.

Hey, it's Manhattan. I know lots of gay men who have paid way too much money for bad performance art.

No word as to whom these wealthy gay men will next fete at the sake of their own rights and protections as American citizens. Although I did hear about a swanky seance happening in midtown wherein a group of monied LGBT folk will try to pick the misunderstood brains of the late Jesse Helms and Jerry Falwell. Only in New York, kids!

*One of the men, Ian Reisner, recently feted Sen. Ron Johnson as well. Like Cruz, the Human Rights Campaign gives Johnson a 0% on LGBT issues.
